Oral hygiene instruction and dental advice

Good oral hygiene starts at home. At Dovident we provide targeted brushing instruction and practical dental advice when needed, or as part of our care for children. This helps you maintain your oral health in the long term.

When is brushing instruction useful?

We provide brushing instruction for children to help them develop good habits from an early age. Adults can also benefit, for example with recurring gum problems, bleeding, bad breath or visible plaque. With focused advice and small adjustments you can often see quick improvement.

What the instruction includes

We review your brushing technique together and identify where improvement is possible. We explain the correct way to brush, how to use interdental brushes or floss, and how to choose the right brush or toothpaste. Sometimes we use disclosing agents to make plaque visible. This gives you immediate insight into areas to improve.

Guidance for children

With young children we provide explanations and guidance in a playful, positive way. Parents are involved in the instruction so they can support brushing at home. We advise on when to start brushing independently, the use of fluoride toothpaste and preventing harmful habits such as thumb sucking or prolonged bottle use.

Personalised advice

Every mouth is different. That is why we tailor our instructions and advice to your personal situation. Whether it concerns sensitive teeth, braces, implants or limited mobility: we help you with an approach that suits your mouth and lifestyle.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is oral hygiene instruction mandatory?
No, but we recommend it if there are signs that brushing is not optimal. It is intended as support, not a requirement.
  • How often will I receive oral hygiene instruction?
As long as there is a reason. Usually one session is sufficient, but sometimes follow-ups or repeats are useful.
  • Is it covered by insurance?
For children up to 18 years it is part of the Dutch basic health insurance. For adults, coverage depends on your supplementary insurance.
  • Is brushing instruction also for people without complaints?
Yes, preventive instruction can also help to avoid problems in the first place.
  • Is it better to use an electric toothbrush or a manual one?
We discuss what works best for you, but in most cases an electric toothbrush is more effective.
