Professional dental cleaning
A clean mouth is not only fresh but essential for good oral health. At Dovident we carry out professional dental cleanings to remove tartar, plaque and stains, helping to prevent gum problems and inflammation.
Why is a professional cleaning necessary?
Even with careful brushing and flossing, tartar and plaque can form in hard-to-reach areas. These deposits contain bacteria that can irritate the gums and cause inflammation (gingivitis) or even affect the jaw bone (periodontitis). A professional cleaning can significantly reduce these risks.
What happens during a dental cleaning?
During the appointment we remove tartar and deposits using special instruments. This can be done with hand instruments or ultrasonic vibrations. Afterwards we polish the teeth so the surface is smooth and new deposits adhere less easily. If needed, we give additional instructions or tips for home oral hygiene.
Who performs the cleaning?
The cleaning is usually carried out by a preventive dental assistant or a periodontal prevention assistant. For more advanced gum problems we involve a dental hygienist. In all cases we follow current protocols and tailor the treatment to your situation.
Health and aesthetics
Besides preventing gum disease, a dental cleaning also has a visible effect: teeth feel cleaner and look fresher. Stains from coffee, tea or smoking can largely be removed. This is not a substitute for teeth whitening, but the result is often perceived as cosmetically pleasing.
Frequently asked questions
-
Is a dental cleaning the same as cleaning during a dental check?
No. It is an intensive treatment in which tartar, plaque and stains are professionally removed. -
Does it hurt?
Most people find the cleaning sensitive but not painful. We adapt the treatment to your comfort. -
How often should I have my teeth cleaned?
That depends on your oral health. For a healthy mouth once or twice a year is usually sufficient. More frequent visits are advised for sensitive or inflamed gums. -
Is this covered by insurance?
For children up to 18 years yes. For adults it depends on your supplementary dental insurance. -
Can I eat and drink straight after a cleaning?
Yes, although your teeth may be temporarily more sensitive to cold or warm foods and drinks.
