Dental treatment under general anaesthesia available from September
From September, Dovident dental practice will offer dental treatment under general anaesthesia for patients with severe dental anxiety. Interested patients can now contact the practice to arrange an intake appointment and discuss planning.
Treatment under general anaesthesia is intended for patients who are unable to tolerate normal dental treatment. This may include people with extreme dental anxiety, a strong gag reflex or situations where more extensive dental treatment is needed but treatment in the regular dental chair is not feasible.
The general anaesthesia will take place within our own practice in The Hague. For this, Dovident dental practice works with a specialised anaesthesia team that comes to the practice on treatment days. The dental treatment itself is carried out by our own clinicians, while the anaesthesia team is responsible for the anaesthesia and medical monitoring.
Treatment under general anaesthesia is not intended for routine check-ups or minor procedures. It is mainly suitable for more extensive treatments where several parts of the treatment may need to be completed in one session.
An extensive intake appointment always takes place first. During this appointment, we discuss the patient’s concerns, oral health, treatment needs and medical situation. We also assess whether general anaesthesia is appropriate and medically responsible. General anaesthesia is a medical procedure that requires careful preparation. General health, medication use, possible medical risks and the treatments that can be carried out during the anaesthetic are all taken into account.
Because general anaesthesia requires additional medical preparation, specialist support and continuous monitoring, this form of treatment is only intended for situations where regular dental care is genuinely not feasible. The anaesthesia team monitors the patient throughout the treatment and ensures that the anaesthetic is managed safely and in a controlled way.
If treatment under general anaesthesia is possible, we prepare a treatment plan and discuss which treatments can be carried out during the session. We also provide clear information about the costs. In addition to the usual dental treatment costs, there are extra costs for the anaesthesia. These are approximately €450 per treatment hour.
With this addition, Dovident dental practice aims to support patients for whom dental care would otherwise be difficult to access. The aim is not to offer general anaesthesia as a standard option, but to provide a safe solution for patients for whom regular dental treatment is genuinely not possible.
